Burning Blaziken

Description

Flint was fine before we battled at the Mossdeep City Gym. We went in there with utmost confidence, but it wasn't easy. Flint was marvellous- I couldn't have asked more of him. He was exhausted, but finished the battle himself, the rest of the team long fainted.
But then after that... something was very different. If he had levelled up or something, I don't know, but he was a different Pokemon. He wouldn't listen, he seemed distant, his eyes empty and sunken. The Pokemon Centre said there was nothing wrong, despite his recovery being long after the gym battle.
We found him in the open fields near our camp. Penny, my Pelliper, had gotten worried, and began the search herself. Flint was just stood there, staring into space, fireball in his talon. The night was still and silent. His eyes were filled with sadness, loneliness. It was shocking to see him like this.
In his mind, the world around him was burning, searing. Decimated by the energy he could simply summon and cast. Nothing could stop him. The sensation of power ran through his spine. Nothing could stop him.
"Flint?" My voice rang out through the star filled night. Penny and I waited. The Blaziken's eyelids slowly closed, and opened again. The faintest sign of focus appeared within them. His sad, blank face turned to look at us. Penny gave a small squeak, while I stood stock still. It was terrifying, seeing this Pokemon I had trained from the beginning like this- unnatural, unknown.
“Flint,” I said again. My voiced seemed to reach him. He continued to stare. I was glad I had a Pokemon at my side; one I knew could take on Flint, should I need it. I put my hand out to him, and he turned about on the spot. His claws closed around the fireball quivering in his talon, snuffing it out. He came closer, growing bigger as he did, a full two feet taller than me. The dew covered grass fell down about his large fur-covered feet.
“Come on,” I said, forcing a smile and turned to be beside him, my hand out stretched, but not quite touching him, “We’ll go to the Pokemon Centre, get you rested, get some food, all ready for tomorrow.” His empty eyes just stared forward, but we walked together back into town. Penny followed us, cowering, feeling dwarfed by her old battle partner.

I've wanted to redo this old picture for some time now. Recent comments convinced my that I should do it sooner rather than later. I tried to think of a reason one of my Pokemon would go off and do something like that in the old picture. The answer is, he wouldn't, I suppose. It was quite fun thinking up a bit of Pokemon prose. And fun doing something in the first person, which I'm not really a big fan of. Oooh, I want to do more Pokemon art now!
I could not remember, for the life of me, how I did the background and grass in the older version. I wish I still had the photoshop file, but it's long gone! So I had to guess. It's a bit more intense, the background, but I suppose it suits Flint's frame of mind. Grass on the other hand, sucks. I tried lots of settings, but it's nowhere near.
Anyway, enjoy :)
